Pacers... Oh Yeah!!!

yep. this happened... what a game!!! Goooo Pacers!

My love affair with the Pacers continues. I love the games... but the whole winning thing is really really awesome. It's cool to see them play well together... to see players stepping up and having a phenomenal game... and then beat a team that most would never have thought they could. That's Indiana basketball right?! It was really a great win...especially after what happened the last time Miami came to town.

Now... let's talk about these uniforms Miami was wearing... 

First off... it was throwback night. Both teams were wearing retro uniforms... but Miami... really? that one? So I did a little research. The uniforms were 1970-71 Miami Floridians (that is old school ABA stuff). I would hope there were better throw back uniforms to choose... but I guess not. They were tropical colors which is soooo south Florida. I just was confused the whole game by the pink and orange. I'm can only imagine the players are gonna be glad when the throw back nights for these uniforms are over and they don't have to wear those things again.

Confessions! Confessions!

I don't have a lot this week...but still...

I confess...
  • I've been sneaking hard candy this week. Just a few discs at night. tsk.
  • I gave up soda... and have now picked up coffee. Officially addicted. Bad.
  • I've been eating Cutie Clementines... nonstop. My photographer says he eats carrots to keep himself from smoking... so I started trying clementines instead of candy. It works. Except I at 10 before bed 2 nights in a row. Is that too many?
  • I am currently wearing an Ohio State snuggie... it's cold and I didn't want to run outside in the rain to get the blanket I keep in my car. Shame...

On A Positive Note... 
I have been working out like a crazy woman! I am eating very healthy... so ya know what! I count the week as a win! Gave myself a treat today... =) I like treats.

Gal Pals Fitness Challenge: Thursday; CrossFit Kicks My Butt

OMG. I'm tired, but I'm not. Pulled a double today. Honest moment: I wanted to call my gals and say ehhhh I'm too exhausted to do a second workout this morning, but I was the one that talked them into this so I feel obligated to go. I'm glad I did.

I swear the workouts are getting easier... either that or I'm getting stronger. The gals agree... we've been picking up the speed on the rounds and doing shorter rests between. We did lay around and do a lot of "stretching" after though... gotta love good friends;)

CrossFit Reminds Makes Me Happy
Workout #1 was at 9am. CrossFit!!! It's early, but it is sooo worth it! My friends are tired of hearing about how much I love CrossFit. love Love LOVE!!!

Today's workout was an AMRAP (as many reps as possible) thrusters and pullups. You start with 3 of each and go up by intervals of 3... so 3, 6, 9, 12, 15... do it for 7 minutes. It sucked... but felt good.

What a normal workout looks like... goes up on the white board. This one was really not bad at all. Most are much worse.
I like it because I'm seeing a difference after only 2 weeks. I'm midway through week 3 now. It feels much more like you're on a sports team than it does like a workout. Some of the nicest ladies workout at our "box"... that's what they call a CrossFit gym. It makes it better... it's encouraging... and inspiring. It's hard... but it's doable and its over after an hour.

So what is it? It's a combination of weight lifting and calisthenics/plyometrics. Lots of squats and push ups and pull ups on either gymnastics rings or a bar. We also have done tricep dips on the rings (way too hard for me right now) or with the gymnastics parallel bars. There are spurts of running (up to a mile total in some workouts so far).

What I've Learned
I hate burpees. I hate Turkish get ups. I hate deadlifts. But I love CrossFit. I love how much better I feel... and that is what has spurred the search for other at-home workouts that are kinda similar.

I need gloves. My hands look like man hands... not cute. I've been digging around for old gymnastics gear for my hands, but apparently I don't pack well. Goodness knows when I packed it and where I put it!

I can't wait to see what happens in a month.

At-Home Fitness Challenge: Wednesday Workout!

Today was the easiest of the days so far. My group decided to do the circuits faster and with less of a break in between sets. Ended up still breaking a sweat... But was nice to not be too overwhelmed today:)

We are past the halfway mark for the week! Yay!!!

So today was a little easier than yesterday. not easy... but easier. It is however, a whole heck of a lot of abs. It took me 45 minutes to do... I was just thankful to get it done.

Luckily, I'm doing this with 3 of my gal pals. That has made this semi-social and waaaay more fun to do. It's a bonding of sorts... over torture. ha! Thank goodness for good friends!!!

Sunday wasn't too bad... but Monday wasn't quite so easy.

The only real break to breathe for this workout is post those crazy Russian twists. As much as I hate the twists, I think I hated the lunges more today. Thank goodness for calf raises!!! I need those 20 when I got there.

Linsanity comes to Indy

YAY! Pacers!!! Let's say that first. As some of you may know, I'm one of the emcees for Pacers games this year. I LOVE love LOVE it! Such a fun "job." I'm truly lucky I get to do it. The people I get to work with are so awesome there... its just such a great atmosphere.

Best part: I get to watch the games and I get a great view a lot of the time. Courtside is amazing. Seeing the players up close is really interesting because you don't realize how big/small/skinny some players are. I mean we all know 7 feet tall is tall... but it's totally different when a 7 footer is standing near you. wow.

Well Saturday night's game was packed! A sold out crowd... and it was probably because of Linsanity. Jeremy Lin with the NY Knicks was in town and every Asian in Indy and the surrounding areas was out. I'm half Korean... born in Seoul... and it was crazy to see.

Really it's always cool to see people breaking stereotypes and being successful at something no one would every guess. I mean really... who thinks a Harvard alum is going to be a hotshot in the NBA. YAY Linsanity!!!

4 Week Challenge: Sunday At-Home Workout

I found one of these workouts last week. My friend sent me the rest and now I'm ready to do it! It's a 4 week workout. Each day  has a different circuit. Here is the one me and a gal pal did today.

okay... so the worst of this particular workout is those stinkin' Russian twists. so boo. But good news is once you get past that part... it's really not too bad. Gonna be honest... this is the easiest one of the week.

Low Cal, Delish Spring Refreshment! Recipes and a GIVEAWAY!!! OH MY!

Ya Thirsty?! Oh yeah! It's been warm. It's been wonderful...

I gave up sodas. yeh. No bueno. I've been drinking lots of other flavored waters and things to make up for the flavor that I'm missing. One of the photographers I work with, Anne, brought me a Sparkling Ice bottle a few months back. OMG. yum. No calorie deliciousness.

Sparkling Popsicles 
  •  Your Favorite Sparkling ICE  
  • Ice Cube Tray 
  • Toothpicks or Popsicle Sticks
  • Fill an ice cube tray with your favorite Sparkling ICE. Cover tray tightly with plastic wrap. Poke a toothpick through plastic wrap into each cube. Place in freezer until cubes are frozen. Enjoy!
Creamsicle Sparkling Punch 
  • 1 qt. vanilla ice cream
  • 1 qt. sherbet
  • 8-12 (17oz)Bottles Orange Mango Sparkling ICE 
  • Mix all ingredients together in large punch bowl. Let ice cream melt a little before serving.Recipe works great with Black Raspberry Sparkling ICE too!
Citrus Cooler Sparkling Popsicles
  • 1 oz. Silver Tequila
  • Lime Wedge Muddled
  • Top with Orange Mango Sparkling ICE

  • 1 oz. Vodka
  • 3oz of Pineapple juice
  • 1 oz Cranberry juice

  • 1oz Malibu
  • 2oz Pineapple Juice

Sailor’s Delight Southern Breeze
  • 1 oz. Mango Rum, 1oz Pineapple rum

More At-Home Fitness Fun...

These at-home workouts always look easier than they are... tricky. I found this one on Pinterest and thought it'd be a good one to do because my arms are sore from my Crossfit workouts (I will blog about this too... don't worry;)

If this guy can workout... so can I! haha.
 Whatcha need for this workout: Just you! Maybe a yoga mat if you do the workout outside like I did and don't want grass all up on you.
  • The 100 Workout:
  • 100 jumping jacks
  • 90 crunches
  • 80 squats
  • 70 leg lifts
  • 60 jumping jacks
  • 50 crunches
  • 40 squats
  • 30 leg lifts
  • 20 jumping jacks
  • Run for 10 minutes
Total time: about 30 minutes (I needed time to catch my breath!!! Don't judge!)

I had originally planned to do this series twice. Midway through the first 100 jumping jacks I realized this was going to stink and that wasn't going to happen. ha! When the crunches are your "break"... you know you have a real problem ahead. The squats seem like a break until you realize your legs are burning. The leg lifts were just terrible... I had to count in clusters to get through the first 70. Hopefully I can build up to 2 full rounds.

In the end... I was breathing hard. Somehow my arms were still sore, but I think that's because they just are sore and everything makes them hurt. ha! but I did the workout in the wonderful sunshine. ahhh... gotta love it.

Best part... it's done. Whoop whoop!

Happy Birthday KJ!!!

One of my dearest friends and fellow Fox 59 reporter Kjerstin Ramsing is celebrating her birthday today! She is turning 21, again=) Today we celebrated with a yummy outdoor patio lunch. Appears Mother Nature gave her perfect weather for her birthday!

If you get a moment... wish her a happy birthday too=)

Prayer... an issue?

Prayer, a religious activity, is the center of some controversy in the small town of Seymour, Indiana. A food bank there asks to pray with people when they come in. The state is saying they can't do that and still get the federal emergency assistance food that makes up 15% of what they distribute.

The state has already come in and taken the food out of the pantry in Seymour. That food will be redistributed between 3 other pantries in Jackson County Indiana.

 I went to Seymour last night. I sat down with Paul Bruce who runs the pantry. I asked him... why not take the food and let the prayer go? People need the food, right? His answer: it's not about the food to him... this pantry is his ministry and prayer is a big part of it.



Now it's important to note: most of the food pantries in Indiana are faith-based pantries... per a state administrator. Most of them find a way to comply with the rules. 

Paul's thought a lot about it... you can tell when you talk to him. People have tried to convince him to do different things to be in compliance with the "rules." But he says no... he believes the prayer is too important.

The pantry doesn't "require" anyone to pray... the volunteers just ask if you'd like to pray... and Paul believes he has a right to ask and people have a right to do what they want. He showed us the guidelines... which say you can't make religious activities a "requirement" for food. State administrators say that even asking can make people feel like they have to pray in order to get the help they need. Paul has appealed to the state to give him back the food. He is still waiting on their answer.

Paul told me last night as I was leaving that he never thought this was what he'd take a stand for. He's a military guy... a Marine. But he laughed a bit thinking about it because for him it was a no-brainer. He said... if you cant stand for what you believe in, what can you stand for?

He says... he believe in God. He believes in heaven and hell... and he believes in the power of prayer. The food for the pantry is starting to come in from other places... other donations. He says he can see his prayer is being answered.

I'd love to hear your opinions...  I've tried very, very hard to leave my thoughts out of this one. I know this one will stir up lots of thoughts and that is what blogging is all about. Share your thoughts... please, just respect each others opinions.

My Office... Anywhere With WiFi

It's become the trend for me... laptops, camera, microphone and fast food restaurants. I'm doing a lot of my work from inside yummy smelling burger joints. Total problem when you're trying to be healthy.

My latest office... McDonald's. They offer free wifi... it makes my life easy... and gets me outta sitting in a live truck all night.=)

Everyday Eva gets a new 'do!'

I'm one of those people that takes on projects and can't stop until I get done... what I want to get done. haha. It's good and bad, but this time it was good. Project: new website look started on a sleepless night last week... and this weekend I spent some time actually finishing up.

Working Out At the House... Can Still Kick Your Butt!

I'm getting married in just a matter of months... in Mexico. That means I'm going to be wearing a bathing suit... and by golly I wanna look good in my honeymoon pics.

Let's pause. It's March. It's been a warm winter... but still. Ahhh a beach.


Okay... back to reality. Mexico. Bathing suit. Me. YIKES! Needless to say... I'm serious about getting fit. Maybe the most serious I've ever been in my life.

I saw a post a while back on a gal pal's Facebook page. A workout that looked like I could do it all at home. I wasn't in the mood to do the big box gym thing one day this week... so I gave it a whirl. OMG. It was rough!

Workout:
  • 100 jumping jacks
  • 50 crunches
  • 20 tricep dips
  • 15 squats
  • 20 lunges (each leg)
  • 70 russian twists
  • 20 standing calf rises
  • 5 pushups
  • 30 second plank
  • 10 lunge split jumps
***Then I went and ran a mile... booo.

You don't need any equipment. I used a random chair for my tricep dips and my yoga mat so I could do it outside... but you could always do it inside on the carpet or floor. It was just soo nice... I had to get out and enjoy the weather.

Try it. I dare ya! Looks simple... you'll be tired.;)

Shopping Spree... Yes, Please!

I like shopping. I would like shopping more if I didn't have to pay for it! haha! Wouldn't we all?! Got a little info about a chance to win a shopping spree... thought I'd share it with you all=)

McAuley's... it's in Anderson, SC... convienently on my way home to SC (depending on which way I go). All ya gotta do is like their and you get a chance to win $300. Now for my non-SC gals... you can shop  too. So... no matter where you are... you can enter and be able to shop and win $$$.

It's not super cheap, but it's not super expensive either. The wonderful nature of a boutique like this... original pieces that are a bit of splurge (maybe), but not gonna totally break your bank.

I'm just not sure if they would look right on me... I keep trying them on and walking away. I think it'd be a good leggings outfit. We'll see... maybe Santa will bring me one=) I love Santa... prob always will. =)

Can't Sleep Makeover... I Smell Diet Soup

I got bored. haha! So I decided to do a late night makeover on the blog. If it has some issue... let me know. I will try to get it fixed=)

The reason I can't sleep... I have something cooking on the crockpot and it smells shockingly delish.

Clense... Diet... Something I Heard About From My Sister
This crockpot concoction is part of this "cleanse" my sister told me about. Don't worry it's a cleanse where you eat... I'm not a non-eater type. I eat. Generally, a lot... hence why I feel it's probably best to do a little cleansing. haha.

So a few days ago... my sis posted on Facebook about this "cleanse" she was doing. Since I have been quite unhealthy since Thanksgiving... and I'm getting married in June and wanna look cute... I thought 'eh' why not give it a try.

I'm almost halfway... not sure if it works... but I'm doing it for no other reason than to put a quick stop to the downward slide I've been on. I do realize that consistent healthy eating is the way to go... but I wanted something to kick start me in that direction. Don't laugh.

Seriously?! Burgers at Work? This is Why I Never Diet
Yesterday, I walk into work... and I discover that there are 3 incredibly fatty burgers ready and purchased for the 4pm show. ... apparently the just most delicious, unhealthy, yum patties you can put in your mouth.

If you know me... or have worked with me... you know I eat just about everything. Except this week. Stupid "cleanse."

The producers wanted me and Ray to test out the burgers... meaning eat them... and then guess how many calories they had in them. Despite really wanting a burger... I declined. whomp whomp...

The "Cleanse"
Here is the torture I've been putting myself through... upon further research... aka Googling... I've found it's a variation of the GM diet/cleanse. I've put it below... not because it's a good idea or that it works... only so you can see how ridiculous I'm being this week.


It's 7 days long... and you can't drink "adult beverages" during that time, but you must drink 10 glasses of water/straight black coffee/black tea each day. I've been getting no where near that much water!!! But I will say... I'm now on day 4 and I haven't been hungry... I haven't wanted to eat what my choices were that day, but I haven't been hungry.

Day One All the fruits ya want... except bananas.  Apparently they really wanna push melons on this cleanse... thankfully I love melons.

Day Two All the veggies ya want. Start the day with baked potato with a "pat" of butter. I opted for a sweet potato. I was told you can do salad, but no dressing... a little oil and vinegar is ok though...

Day Three A mix of fruits and veggies. No bananas still... No potatoes today=(

Day Four Bananas and milk. I know, really?! This is the day I'm on now... I get 8 bananas and am supposed to drink 3 glasses of milk. So weird. But! I also get unlimited amounts of the crockpot concoction. It smells yum... and it's keeping me from sleeping!

Day Five Chow time! It's time for beef and tomatoes!!! Eat two 10 oz. portions of lean beef and 6 whole tomatoes. You don't have to eat all the beef... but apparently the tomatoes are crucial. Also up the water intake by a quart. Holy cow... I'm going to be in the bathroom all day if I do that!

Day Six Unlimited amounts of beef and veggies.

Day Seven Brown rice, fruit juices and all the veggies ya want.

Crockpot Concoction:
28 oz, Water, 6 Large Onions, 2 Green Peppers, Whole Tomatoes (fresh or canned), 1 Head Cabbage, 1 Bunch Celery, 4 Envelopes Lipton Onion Soup Mix, Herbs and Flavouring as desired.
